President's Volunteer Service Award
The President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is an award dedicated to honoring those who do outstanding volunteer work. The President of the United States, along with the Corporation for National and Community Service gives out PVSAs to excellent volunteers. In 2021, SMOA became a certifying organization to give out PVSAs to all members and tutors who meet the hour requirements.
HCASC SUBCOMMITTEE
During the 2020-2021 year, the SMOA team has been working with the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) to inform Howard County parents about student-led educational service groups to give every student an equal opportunity to succeed.
In 2020, SMOA successfully founded the HCASC Tutoring Committee, which aims to raise awareness about free youth-to-youth volunteer tutoring services and to bring different educational groups together to help them grow and spread their mission of equitable education across Howard County and beyond.
